At Timatanga school, children learn through play and discovery, and through teacher-led activities that have been planned in response to their interests and needs. Our values are taught both implicitly and explicitly. Intrinsic motivation is fostered by our school culture, which values genuine learning journeys and supports children to undertake them.
Mornings are teacher-initiated learning time and the second half of the school day is child-initiated. While it is assumed that children will join in in the mornings, it is not compulsory. Children are free to do what they want so long as they don’t interrupt others’ learning.
